Value can be defined as the amount of money received back from a product. In other words, that value is benefits provided by a product. In a value engineering can be described type values (values) that need to be considered in the design, namely:
1. Use values
Ie the value that reflects how much the usefulness of the product due to the fulfillment of a function. Generally, depending on the nature and quality of product.
2. Esteem Value
Ie the value that shows how much the ability of products to satisfy consumers who have them. This ability is determined by product-specific traits such as charm, beauty and prestige of the product.
3. Exchange Value
Ie the value that indicates how big the consumer desire for sacrifice or the cost to obtain the product.
4. Cost Value
Ie the value that shows how much the total cost required to produce a product and fulfill all the desired functions.
The concept of value can be described as the ratio between the performance displayed by a product against the costs incurred to obtain the product,
Value = performance/cost
Where:
• Performance: The gains or benefits derived from the functions of a product.
• Cost: The total charges must be paid to obtain all the desired functions.
